Mindy Kaling revealed the first look at her new adult animated re-imagining Scooby-Doo, film. first look at film It came with Warner Bros. skins. Some of the biggest buzz around Velma was the fact that Kaling makes the titular name Woman of Color in this version. The writer/actress/producer/comedian was unfazed in her defense of this decision: “I hope you’ve noticed that my film is from South Asia. If people are afraid of it, I don’t care.” She also added that if Scooby-Doo had a talking dog that could solve crimes, her movie “could be brown”.
When Kaling appeared Late Night with Seth Meyers Last year, she addressed the backlash on social media toward her new vision for a film, head on:
“When it was announced that I was going to be the voice of Velma, people were very supportive and happy on Twitter,” Kaling told Myers. “So I was relieved that these are huge fans – anime and comic book fans. Especially [for] Viewing a legacy like this… people weren’t happy. There was a lot of “So, not a movie?” This type of tweet. “Isn’t Velma the classic I always think of?”
